Discussions in India have led to a path-breaking co-operation between Punjabi University - Patiala, Uttarakhand Open University and Foundation for Responsible Media (FORMEDIA). This is the core start-up group of the MILUniversity Network of India (MILUNI). They are being joined by University of Calcutta, Pondicherry University and Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University for Journalism & Communication. Co-operating members will work together and in their individual capacities through various fora on activities that promote MIL.
Further to building networks at various global levels, UNESCO initiated a National Consultation to build awareness and access to Media & Information Literacy (MIL), with the objective of enabling a global environment for national MIL policies.
Co-ordinated by FORMEDIA, MILUNIconducted theUNESCO-led Indian National MIL Consultation from November 11 to 13, 2014 in partnership with India International Centre, New Delhi. Key stakeholders participated in the deliberations with the aim of to developing a Position Paper with recommendations for a national MIL policy.
