ARUNA DASGUPTA– Trustee, Foundation for Responsible Media

BIO : Aruna DasGupta

A graduate in Political Science with a post-graduate diploma journalism, Aruna Dasgupta has been intensely working as a journalist since1972.

Presently, as the Country Program Coordinator for Public Affairs Section of the American Embassy, she plays a key role in strategizing, planning, overseeing and evaluating the wide-ranging Public Affairs and outreach programs of the Embassy in New Delhi, the U.S. Consulates in other key Indian cities and the support provided by our offices in the U.S.

In her long career she has edited, written, compiled more than 100 publications including UNICEF in India, Fifty Years of WHO, UNICEF- UPE mailers, Country Reports, Annual Reports, PNDT Report, State Reports on Two-Child Norm, FAQs on HIV, Assessment of Multiple Village Water Supply Scheme, Mission Statements, HTN –India, Population Action International Report, Girl Child Kit, India’s Progress Towards RH Goals, Report on Child Rights in the National Media, brochures on Child Labour, PRSD report, ICPD Monthly Newsletters, CP6 Brochure, Colloquium report, VAW Booklet, Adolescents in India : A Profile (plus State profiles).

From the late seventies until the early 90s she worked as Assistant Editor and Senior Editor of SPAN Magazine published by the US Embassy in India. Prior to that, she was the North India representative of India’s first youth magazine, JS, published by the Statesman. Between the early seventies to the mid-seventies, she was Assistant Editor of Youth Times published by Times of India and SOMA, one of the pioneering hotel magazines, published by Oberoi Hotels.

Aruna, as Associate Editor, was part of the dynamic group of people who ran  Dateline Delhi from 1968-77. Here, she was also in charge of running the school of journalism, which was a stepping stone for many well-known journalists of today.
